Fig Tree Point is a rocky point in Middle Harbour with a shallow reef that juts out into the channel towards Quaker’s Hat Bay. Although marked with a green lateral channel mark, it occasionally traps an inexperienced or distracted skipper who passes on the wrong side of the mark when the reef is submerged at high tide.
The ebbing tide made refloating the vessel impossible, so Cammeray’s tender ferried the passengers to MH30 to be transferred safely ashore. The owner will attempt to refloat the cruiser on the next high tide.
