Bravo Watch has started the Whale Watching Season in Sydney Harbour. After a routine call for a pump out of a sinking vessel. A Securite call came across the VHF radio that a small whale was off South Head. The Crew with Lance Miller as Master, proceeded to South Head where a Whale Watching vessel was already there. Our crew stood by (taking the odd photograph). However, the whale then proceeded towards Middle Head. A call was put out to Sydney Ports that the whale was in the middle of the commencement of the Western Channel. Commercial vessels (ferries) were diverted to the Western Channel, and two Maritime Vessels appeared out of nowhere to keep spectator at a safe distance. At one stage the whale came and broached about 20m off the stern of MH30. Technically we were inside presscribed limits, but we had no say in the matter. At about 1230 we headed back to base and the whale departed shortly afterwards. I think the whale knew thaht Bravo needed some entertainment and when they left, so did the whale. Much fun was had back at the base and the stories grew larger (as did the whale) whilst we all sat down and had a great lunch put on by Nick Gordon. Joseph Battaglia
